Project 14: Vertical & Horizontal Frames

This project is all about taking two images of each scene; one in the vertical format and the second in the horizontal format, then compare both, and log my findings.

Now it’s no big secret that we see in a horizontal plane (and only certain areas are in focus). Therefore it is only natural that when we see pictures in the horizontal format we see this as the norm. and we get complacent with the norm, when things change, we tend to notice, either for the right reasons or the wrong reasons. As I have noticed in some of my images below the shape of the subject does not always coincide with the format of the frame, and for that reason, the shape of the subject in relation to the frame clearly has an effect, sometimes for the better and sometimes not.

More images and descriptons to follow…

Some of the image pairs above clearly work in both formats, however, some only work in one format. What this shows is that some subjects depending on their dimensions, shapes, lines and the direction of those lines, the frame can interact with those to enhance or emphasise the subject. To that end the frame format clearly has a strong influence on the end picture.
